AIS Public Training Times
The AIS has opened for public training from Monday 29 October 2007..
The hours, subject to other Carnivals and bookings will be:
Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday: 3:30pm - 7:00pm
Thursday: 3:30pm - 6:00pm
Saturday and Sunday: 8:00am - 1:00pm.
These restricted hours will be enforced by the duty attendant and by security at other times. All persons training must be in personal possession of a training ticket, training season pass, AIS identity card, or ACTAS identity card. All public training tickets and season passes can be purchased at the AIS Pool reception desk.
Prices: Single tickets: Students and concessions - $3.00 and Adults - $4.50 .
Book of 12 tickets $30 and $45 respectively. Season tickets: $70 and $100 for the period till 31 March 2008.

All Schools Selections
Athletes that would like to be considered for the ACT Team to compete at the Telstra Australian All Schools & Youth Athletics Championships need not have gained a qualifier in their event/s to send in a nomination form. If you would like to be considered this is the only way for the Team Managers to know you are interested. |

AIS Athletics Field Update
The track will open for public training on 27 Saturday and 28 Sunday October; this weekend from 8am till 1pm and this will be the normal weekend opening times. Week days are still to be confirmed for training. Marking the track is still being completed.
It is important that all athletes and coaches are reminded of the need to shorten running spikes as they transition from grass tracks to the new Mondo surface. The permitted maximum length of spike is 7mm, with distance runners only needing 4mm spikes. This includes javelin boots which often have much longer spikes than runners or jumpers.
Any longer spikes will stick in the smoothe surface and slow down the athlete.
The recommended shapes are "smoothe pyramid" and "christmas tree" only and "needle" spikes are banned.

Telstra Australian Under 18 & Under 16 Combined Events Championships
Entries are now being taken for the Australian Under 18 & Under 16 Combined Events Championships to be held at the AIS Athletics Field, Bruce, ACT on Saturday 15 - Sunday 16 December 2007. Please note that these Combined Events are for the 2008 Championships. Entries close at Athletics Australia on Tuesday 27 November 2007. Entries are being taken on the Athletics Australia Online entry service found at: http://www.athletics.com.au/community/events/u18u16_combinedevents_07

FIRST COMPETITION CANCELLED - Saturday 20 October 2007
AACT regrets to inform the community that our first competition scheduled for Saturday 20 October has been cancelled due to the AIS Athletics Field track line marking not being completed in time.
AACT apologises for any inconvience caused.
Registration & Facilities Familiarisation Day - 2:45pm Saturday 27 October 2007
Register for the upcoming track and filed athletics season from 2:45pm. There will be a track and field familiarisation from 2:45pm to 3:45pm. You will be given valuable info on what to do each time you arrive for competition and will also be guided around the facility and shown how each event is carried out. All questions will be answered. Competition will start at 3:45pm, AACT In Stadia Program 2.

In Stadia Competition Calendar and Programs have been updated. Program 1 - Long Jumps have replaced Triple Jumps, Mile Champs on 4:15pm, 9 Feb 07 and 3000m Champs are for male and female competitors. |

The AACT Official's Committee has consulted with the ACT Race & Fitness Walking Club about the main reasons for removing walk events from the Interclub Program; due to the very low number of participants and qualified Officials. The walks community will work with the AACT In Stadia and Official's Committees to ensure that AACT run vibrant walks events at Interclub and are well supported by athletes and there are sufficient qualified Officials present at each event.
The walks events have been reinstated into the Interclub Program. Revised Programs

The 30th Weston Creek 6km Family Fun Run/Walk is on Sunday 14 October 2007 at 10:00am. As per previous years, this fun run/walk is slightly different in that the course follows footpaths and cycle paths through the suburbs
of Weston Creek. The Fun Run/Walk starts and finishes at the Canberra Irish Club in Weston. An array of category prizes is offered with numerous barrel draw prizes.

Dear Members,
It has been over 12 months since Athletics ACT discussed the implications of the Review into Athletics in Australia with its members. Since this time we have moved forward implementing components of the Review into Athletics in the ACT, significantly our new Constitution and By-Laws.
It is now time to revisit how we move Athletics ACT forward and you can be a part of this important process. The workshop will be open to all members of AACT, Committees and Associate Members. We look forward to your support as this is an important meeting and your participation is critical.
The finishing time of the workshop shall be confirmed over the next few days, at this stage it will be approximately
3-4pm. Please advise the office of your attendance for catering purposes.

A memorial service will be held at 2pm Saturday 19 May, 113 Crawford St, Queanbeyan. No flowers please, donations on the day can be made to help send Mizan back to his homeland.

The Winter Club Point Score Program will be going ahead for 2007 with the first event being the ANZAC Day Club Relays tomorrow, 25 April . Location is Northcott Drive, Majura starting at 1pm. You must be registered and wear your club uniform with your registration number on the day to be eligible to gain points for your club. The registration chest numbers have not arrived; therefore we will use ACTA temporary patches with your registration number written on. These will be given to the Club Registrars an hour before the event is due to start. |

ATTENTION: There will be limited parking on Saturday 3 March at the AIS
for our ACTA Championships as the Brumbies have a game. We
have 100 free spaces directly outside the bottom gate of the track; just
say you are with athletics. Once these fill up, you will need to
enter via Ginninderra Drive, Braybrooke Street, left into Masterman Street
and lastly right into Leverrier Street. There is a turn off to the
right directly opposite the AIS indoor pool where you can park for free.
You must mention athletics to gain a free parking spot. |
